ABOUT MY WORK

My work is the search to find inner clarity within noise and allow oneself to be consumed with the noise, but still remain calm, and collected. To find that solitude, time and space to develop inner calm and autonomy needed to engage effectively and creatively with the world, and allow oneself to rethink and reflect an inescapable part of being human. Also, to explore the paradox of finding ourselves surrounded with noise and people but inescapably alone in the world.

Exploring the discerning nature of thoughts in the hope to find a clear and clutter free perception of consciousness, my work seeks to bring clarity into one’s self by visual depictions. Using simple shapes, color, symbolism, a variety of layering techniques and styles, my work takes the subconscious on a journey of realization. A realization of not only self, but of how fast society is paced. With the use of symbols, I communicate pause. My work demonstrates the pursuit of clarity amongst chaos.

Throughout my artworks I have used symbolism that is greatly recognized. The stop sign is present throughout my pieces, it is even included in the triptychs that serve as a sense of transformation and process. Stop to most is very dramatic and harsh. However, initiating a STOP or pause in society today is harsh and requires a lot of energy to do so. I am using the stop sign symbol to represent a calmer sense of pause, taking in consideration the amount of effort it takes to do so. This stop is manifested in many different ways, I am focusing on the stop or pause needed to regain our own consciousness and awareness amongst the chaos of daily life to remain a human with feelings, compassion and emotion which is often lost and turned into judgement with the loss of awareness.

The moth is another symbol that I have incorporated.  The moth is a symbol of determination, attraction, psychic abilities and faith. It is driven towards light even when its efforts toward the light prove to be dangerous and futile, the moth continues towards it. This action of the moth represents faith and determination. I have related this to our journey as humans. Humans like the moth tend to be drawn unknowingly to certain things. Like the moth, we often do not pause or stop when the outcome is inevitably bad. For this reason, I incorporated the moth into my work, demonstrating the importance of pause… or stop before the inevitable outcome of life… death. If its not the death of life all together, death of our humanity… compassion and emotion being replaced with judgement and detachment.

My work is the search to find clarity, regain full conciseness and awareness of our self-amongst the constant chaos. To regain insight of our own life and not feel excluded and overwhelmed pause is essential. That stop or pause is initiated to be fully present and not simply going through the motions of life without awareness. The life that we have come to know is full of degradation and judgment of what we do not understand. I’m hoping that those who view my work will begin to recognize the constant chaos and initiate their own pause to regain conciseness to be present in their own life.
